EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

My past work experience has crossed many work lines. I have spent most of my career delivering services through the role of teacher, principal, counsellor, therapist, consultant, supervisor, senior manager and director of education (Human Resources/Personnel and Student Support Services). My training/experience is in the fields of Counselling/Therapy, Psychological Services, Student Learning Disabilities, Human Resources, Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Grievance and Arbitration, Negotiations (Provincial and Local), Organizational and Change Management. The skills, memberships, certifications and registrations that I have acquired during these past experiences, are also many and varied.


 Human Resources:

-Director of Human Resources and Personnel (School District)
-Responsible for employee relations with teachers and members of provincial public employee associations, recruitment, mediation, grievance and arbitration processes, negotiations
-Served on provincial negotiation teams as appointed member (Collective Bargaining for teachers)
-Responsible for change management with amalgamation of provincial school boards


 Student Support Services:

-Director of Student Support Services
-Director responsible for district educational program planning for special education and student support
-Director and supervisor of psychologists, assessment counsellors, speech language pathologists, itinerant teachers of the hearing impaired and visually impaired
-Director responsible for district crisis management
-Consultant responsible for program support services in the NWT working mainly with aboriginal populations
-Provided services as Counsellor/Therapist
-Delivered workshops/seminars/professional development on numerous topics to staff


 Administration/Senior Management:

-All of the above
-Collaborated with government management and intergovernmental agencies
-Lead schools and school districts in transformation and change
-Worked with administrators of education and other government departments (social services, health, justice) to bring about strategic change
-Appointed member of the Central NL Strategic Planning Committee for integration of government services and the development of regionalized strategic plan
-Strong organizational skills - organized many workshops and conferences e.g. a successful CASA conference for Canadian Superintendents and Administrators
